RANGERS LEGENDS

HERE ARE SOME OF THE GREATEST PLAYERS EVER TO PLAY FOR GLASGOW RANGERS FOOTBALL CLUB.

JIM BAXTER
(1960 - 69)
(1969 - 70)

Although he could be described as something of a wayward genius.
Jim Baxter would surely be on anyone's shortlist of Rangers legends.
A midfielder of immense talent he was Scotland's top footballer of "the swinging sixties".
signed from Raith Rovers in 1960 , Baxter took little time to establish himself at Ibrox and became the primary force in what was a very good Rangers team.
(appearances 254  goals  24)

TERRY BUTCHER
(1986 - 90)

Terry Butcher will forever be remembered as a vital part of the "Sourness revolution" which sweeped though Ibrox in 1986,and the big Englishman did as much as anyone to turn around the fortunes of the club.
A player of immense commitment and determination, Butcher's arrival from Ipswich gave Rangers solidarity in defence, the likes that Ibrox had not seen in many years.
Quite simply Butcher was the rock that Sourness built his new look Rangers.
(appearances 176  goals  11)

DAVIE COOPER
(1977 - 1989)

Every Rangers fan was devastated at the early death of Davie Cooper in 1995.
The former Clydebank winger was generally considered as rangers classiest player in the years between 1978 -1986.
Playing mainly on the left side "Coop" was a tricky dribbler in the old Scottish tradition and also a very effective crosser of the ball.
His sparkling displays of skill, like his epic goal in the 1979 old firm Drybrough cup final made him a firm favorite with the Rangers fans.
Besides his wing abilities Cooper was also a superb striker of the ball as was demonstrated perfectly by his howitzer free kick in the 1987 Skol Cup final against Aberdeen.
A genuine TRUE BLUE Davie Cooper will live forever in the memory's of everyone that saw him play for Rangers and Scotland.
(appearances 540  goals  75)

IAN DURRANT
(1984 - 1998)

It was in1985-86 that local boy Durrant became a regular in the Rangers first team and his sweeping runs made him a firm favourite with the Rangers fans.
Many people considered thay were watching the most naturally gifted left sided Scottish midfielder since the days of Jim Baxter.
A full Scottish international before he was 21, Ian's career was shaping up perfectly when he sustained an horrific knee injury at Aberdeen in October 1988.
He showed incredible courage to recover from that enormous set back and went on to contribute, albeit often as a substitute, to the Gers continued successes in the 1990's.
Durranty frequently saved his best performances for the big occasions - the 1992-93 Champions League campaign being a typical example.
Sadly, we'll never know just how good Ian Durrant might have been but for that fateful day at Pittodrie.
(appearances 331  goals 41)

IAN FERGUSON
(1988 - 2000)

A former Scottish cup winner with St. Mirren, Ian signed for his beloved Rangers in February 1988.
Later that year he paid back a huge chunk of his transfer fee when he rifled in a crucial goal in the Skol Cup final against Aberdeen.
When fully fit, Fergie has proved himself as a midfielder of considerable quality - strong on the ball and the possessor of a powerful shot.
(APPEARANCES  315  GOALS 45)

PAUL GASCOIGNE
(1995 - 1998)

Bobby Robson's description of Gazza ,made ten years  ago, still holds true today:            "Daft as a brush - but a special player".
Certainly in terms of sheer footballing ability, the Geordie is almost peerless.
And although some of his antics unquestionably let Rangers down, Paul will be remembered fondly for the positive side of his football.
For example, his hat-trick display against Aberdeen in April 1996 was as brilliant as it was crucial.
When on form, he dominated practically every premier league game he played in and scored some glorious goals in a light blue shirt.
(appearances  103  goals  39)

BRIAN LOUDRUP
(1994 - 1998)

Brian is for many people the finest player ever to have worn a Rangers jersey.
Walter Smith was understandably delighted in 1994 when he was able to purchase the Dane from Fiorentina for a snip at 2.3 million.
A former European Championship winner, Louders took Scottish football by storm and his pace, close control and dribbling skills left many a Premier League defender trailing in his wake.
Brian's goals and countless assists were a major factor in Rangers 'completion of there nine-in-a-row quest and fittingly he clinched the "nine" with a glorious, rare headed goal at Tannadice in may 1997.
He joined Chelsea but did not settle and moved to Copenhagen before joining Ajax, unfortunately he has had to retire due to  injury.
(APPEARANCES  151  GOALS 45)

ALLY McCOIST
(1983 - 1998)

It's hard to do Coisty justice in just a few brief sentences.
The Golden Boot, Cup Final winners, Old Firm hat-tricks - where do you start with the man who has rewritten more record books than Norris McWhirter.
Sharp, two footed and with an uncanny knack of being in the right place at the right time, Ally is a goal taker par excellence.
To be Rangers all-time top league scorer, having played in the modern era, is quite simply an unbelievable achievement
It's hard to select  a greatest McCoist goal since there were so many special efforts - his header at Leeds, the 1993 League Cup winner, not forgetting all 27 of his Old Firm goals.
Ally loved nothing more than to score for Rangers especially against Celtic and the Rangers fans will always love him for it.
(APPEARANCES  583  GOALS  355)

JORG ALBERTZ
1996-2001

Jorg "The Hammer" Albertz signed for Rangers for 4 million from Hamburg and has become a Rangers legend,  His left foot was feared by every defence in the league.
Albertz was always lethal from the set piece, anywhere in the opponents half being considered "ALBERTZ TERRITORY".
Jorg recently left the club to return to his former club Hamburg in his native Germany,  He will always be remembered by the Ibrox faithful as a player who had a real love for Rangers.
"Kiss the badge"
